Aquatics
At Wakonda, there is a pool for everyone –babies and beginning swimmers, casual splashers and families, and lap swimmers. The Aquatics Program is run by Dan Briggs, award-winning swim coach and instructor.
Additional aquatics amenities:
- Heated pools include a 25-meter, 5-lane, full-size lap pool with diving board and basketball features: 36-inch-deep middle pool, and 24-inch-deep baby pool.
- Snack Bar and Tiki Bar with attentive pool staff provide a full-service amenity around expansive lounging areas with pergolas and deck-style seating and tables.
- The swim team program coaches more than 100 children each major swim stroke, how to compete and socialize in a competitive environment.
- The synchronized swimming team averages 20 swimmers and boasts the title of the 13-time inter-Club champion team and focuses on strength, dance, flexibility, and endurance.
- Group and private lessons provided by trained staff to introduce and enhance aquatic skills.
- Diving lessons & SCUBA instruction opportunities give members a chance to learn or refine skills.
| Dan Briggs, Aquatics Director Dan is an AP Chemistry/Chemistry teacher at Waukee High School, as well as a swim coach for the girls, boys and 8th grade teams at Waukee. He spends his summers Directing the Aquatics program at Wakonda Club. In 2024, the girls' team won back-to-back-to-back state titles. The boys' team finished runner up after just winning a three-peat. Combined, there were 14 All-Americans (top 100 in the USA) in 2024 and a dozen swimming/committed collegiately at D1 schools. Dan recruits some of the best swimmers in the state to work at Wakonda as lifeguards and to give lessons. Dan resides in Waukee with his wife, Tiffany, and they have 6 kids: Cameron, Kiara, Caleb, Calvin, Corbin and Kambria. |
